I have been trying to practice with chillisource and have downloaded visual studio and python, however, whenever I try to activate the CSProjectGenerator.jar, nothing happens.
I have been following the tutorial at http://chilli-source.chilli-works.com/docs/?page_id=67 to the best of my ability. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Currently the project generator takes a while to run on windows, are you sure it is doing nothing at all?
An easy way to check would be to run it in verbose mode which you can do with the following command:
java -jar CSProjectGenerator.jar --projectname <ProjectName> --packagename <ext.package.name> --output <The/Output/Directory> --logginglevel verbose
The tool will now print out what it is doing. The steps where it copies ChilliSource and the final step where it copies to the output directory can take a minute or two. The next release should include a fix which reduces that by a fair bit.
The ChilliSource tools also require Java 8, so you should also check you're JRE is up to date.
The version of the tutorials you're using is also out of date, you should try http://www.chilli-works.com/learn/ instead
I recall having issues with the project generator too. It definitely works on windows but it took a bit of time to realise what it was doing and what it was generating. Once you get it working, everything is fine but realising where it's putting stuff and how it was structuring things took a bit of getting my head around.
One of the things that helped me was to use a portable version of Java 8, since I have another version installed. http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/java_portable
I installed it in c:\Java8 and use c:\Java8\bin\java when I create a project.
